A mastopexy is the medical term for the operation that lifts sagging or hanging
breasts. The nipple of the breast is brought into a higher, more youthful
position and the breast appears fuller. Not only can the form, firmness and size
of the breast be improved but differences in the size and shape of the two
breasts can also be corrected for a more pleasing symmetrical look. Prof. Graewe
uses only the most modern techniques that reduce scarring to a minimum and make
a breast lifting and enhancement possible in one operation. Depending on the
patient's desires and the actual condition of her breasts, various different
surgical possibilities are available:
- Peri-areolar mastopexy
-
Vertical (short) Scar Technique (Lejour method)
- Inverted T- Incision.
Peri-areolar mastopexy This technique is useful for
smaller breast liftings and firmings and leaves the least scarring. The scar
runs around the outer edge of the nipple-areola area.
Vertical scar or short scar technique With this technique the scar runs around the outer
edge of the nipple (areola) area and down to the crease where the breast is
joined to the chest. This is known as short scar technique or Lejour method. The
advantages are that the scars are shorter and the breasts have a more beautiful
shape after they have settled in their final shape. Ugly horizontal scars in the
crease under the breasts are eliminated.
Inverted T-Incision With this method, the scars run vertically and horizontally in
the crease under the breast and one must take larger scars into account. Because
of this, the technique is only used with very large, hypertrophic breasts or
with skin that is very saggy so that a technique involving less scarring is not
possible.
